Claude Code plugins

A Claude Code plugin packages skills, subagents, slash commands, hooks and MCP servers so you can install them in one step. Add a marketplace once, then install any plugin from it by name. Plugins from Anthropic’s official marketplace, claude-plugins-official, need no marketplace step.

How to install a plugin

Inside a Claude Code session:

/plugin marketplace add owner/repo
/plugin install plugin-name@marketplace-name

In a session, /plugin install opens the plugin’s details so you can review what it adds and pick a scope (you, the whole repository, or you in this repository only). From your shell, use claude plugin marketplace add and claude plugin install; the shell install defaults to user scope.

Can I install plugins from my shell or a setup script?

Yes. claude plugin marketplace add takes the same sources as the slash command, and claude plugin install name@marketplace installs at user scope by default. Pass --scope project or --scope local to change that.

A plugin can run hooks and MCP servers on your machine, so treat it like any other code you install. Read the details pane before you pick a scope, prefer well-maintained repositories, and disable plugins you no longer use.
