ccstatusline is a highly customizable status line formatter for Claude Code. Instead of writing your own shell script for Claude Code’s statusLine setting, you configure widgets in an interactive TUI: model name, git branch and PR, context percentage, context window, session and weekly usage bars, cost tracking, compaction counter, reset timers and more, with Powerline styling if you like it.
Who it is for
Claude Code users who want key session facts always visible, especially context fill and remaining usage, without leaving the conversation to run /usage or /context.
Install
Run the configuration TUI:
npx -y ccstatusline@latest
Or with Bun:
bunx -y ccstatusline@latest
From the TUI, install it to Claude Code. It writes something like this to your settings:
{
"statusLine": {
"type": "command",
"command": "npx -y ccstatusline@latest",
"padding": 0,
"refreshInterval": 10
}
}
refreshInterval is only written when your Claude Code version supports it.
Use cases
- Watch context percentage climb and compact or start fresh before quality drops.
- Keep weekly usage and reset time visible during heavy weeks.
- Show the current git branch and PR status when juggling worktrees.
- Track estimated session cost while experimenting with models.
Pros
- No scripting: a TUI with live preview and many widgets.
- Active project with frequent releases and security hardening.
- MIT licensed; works on macOS, Linux and Windows.
Cons and caveats
@latestresolution adds repaint latency; prefer the pinned install.- Widgets that call git,
ghor usage APIs add small overhead per refresh. - Settings imports can include shell commands; the TUI asks for confirmation, so read them.

Frequently asked questions
How does ccstatusline hook into Claude Code?
The TUI writes a statusLine command object to your Claude Code settings.json, for example running npx -y ccstatusline@latest on each repaint.
Is npx slow on every repaint?
It can add latency. The setup flow offers a pinned global install so Claude Code runs a fixed local version instead of resolving @latest each time.
Can it show usage limits?
Yes. Session Usage, Weekly Usage, block and reset timer widgets show usage windows, including compact bar variants and exact reset times.
